An Example: Bones in the Forest
A hiker calls the police, reporting that he has found bones in the forest. Police investigators go to the location described by the man and request assistance from the NFI’s forensic anthropologist. The anthropologist determines the sex and estimates the age and stature of the individual to whom the recovered bones belonged. He also identifies damage on the bones, which are sent to the NFI for further examination. During the cleaning of the bones, additional damage is discovered on the skull.
In de antropologie staat het achterhalen van de identiteit van een levend of overleden persoon centraal.
