How do you mean a hypothesis?

Training

Hypotheses, and thereby research questions, can provide direction for forensic (trace) investigations. It is important to formulate good hypotheses. This will enable you to make use of all means available in forensic science.

At an early stage of the investigation, an optimal hypothesis may point an investigation in the right direction. It may prevent frustrations and complications such as rejecting evidence or assigning an incorrect value to evidence. Therefore, the choice of hypotheses has major consequences for a correct progression of the forensic process.

There are few formal rules for the formulation of a hypothesis. We can, however, help you with formulation of hypotheses that are useful in a forensic setting. During this training session, you will learn how to assess hypotheses in the forensic process and how to formulate them at a basic level.
